The Rangers have activated shortstop Corey Seager from the 10-day IL ahead of the rubber match against the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday night at Globe Life Field. To make room on the roster for Seager, Texas optioned catcher Sam Huff back to Triple-A Round Rock.
Seager is in the starting lineup at shortstop and will bat second.
Seager suffered a strained left hamstring on April 11 and hasn't appeared in a game for the Rangers since. During his three-game rehab assignment with Double-A Frisco, Seager hit .250 in eight at-bats, had two RBI, and scored once. He played shortstop in two of the games and was the designated hitter in the other.
The Rangers' offense hasn't missed a beat despite losing its best hitter over the last several weeks. Texas went 19-12 in Seager's absence thanks to an offense (and strong pitching rotation) that has put a lot of runs on the board. Texas is second in MLB in runs scored behind only the Tampa Bay Rays (268 vs. 261 runs). The next closest team is the Boston Red Sox with 236 runs scored.
Seager was batting .359 with four doubles and a home run when he was placed on the injured list.
