Texas Rangers right fielder Adolis Garcia and starting pitcher Max Scherzer have been removed from the club's World Series roster after both players suffered injuries in Game 3.

Garcia was originally left out of the starting lineup for Game 4 on Tuesday night after he was injured while swinging the bat in the eighth inning of Game 3, and the club waited until the last minute to pull him off of the roster in favor of Ezequiel Duran.

The Rangers described the injury as left side tightness, but Rangers manager Bruce Bochy announced before the game that an MRI revealed that Garcia suffered a moderate oblique strain.

Duran has not had a plate appearance since Sept. 27.

Travis Jankowski will replace Garcia in the starting lineup and will bat ninth.

As for starter Max Scherzer, who was also lifted early from Game 3 due to low back tightness, Bochy said the right-hander's back is "pretty locked up" still.

Texas couldn't afford to be a man down while waiting to see if the hurler's back loosened up, and elected to lift Scherzer from the roster. Left-handed reliever Brock Burke will take the future Hall-of-Famer's spot on the roster.
