Texas Rangers placing Corey Seager on IL

The Texas Rangers were without Corey Seager for Tuesday's walk-off win over the New York Yankees due to an undisclosed injury, and it sounds like they might be without him for the rest of the season.

Seager is being placed on the 10-day IL with hip discomfort, Rangers general manager Chris Young relayed to the club's beat writers on Wednesday. The earliest Seager could return to action would be on Sept. 12 when the Rangers are in Seattle to face the Mariners, but the club may elect to shut him down with only two weeks left in the season.

“I can’t really predict as to when he will be back,” Young said, via Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News.

Seager's placement on the injured list doesn't come as a surprise after Rangers manager Bruce Bochy informed the K&C Masterpiece during his weekly appearance on Wednesday that the club was considering putting the superstar shortstop on the shelf.

"There's no doubt something is hindering him," Bochy said on 105.3 The Fan. "You'll hear soon. We're going to talk about it today. That's why he's getting some time off. Without talking to Corey and [Rangers GM Chris Young] - that's as much as I can give you. ... It's obvious he's not 100%."

Bochy later acknowledged that it was "a very, very good possibility" that Seager was heading for the injured list.

Seager, 30, did not play the field in the first two games of the Rangers' series against the New York Yankees this week and has been the team's designated hitter in four of the last seven games.

Seager started at shortstop in 113 of the 123 games he's played in with the Rangers this season after missing the majority of spring training while recovering from offseason surgery to repair a sports hernia.

Seager is hitting. 278 with 30 home runs and 74 RBI.
