In the wake of Josh Jung suffering a fractured wrist in Monday's game against the Tampa Bay Rays, the Texas Rangers are calling up one of their top prospects, Justin Foscue, according to ESPN MLB insider Jeff Passan.
Jung was injured when he was hit on the right wrist as he attempted to swing at a sinker that was thrown up and in the zone by Rays reliever Phil Maton. Maton hit Evan Carter on the foot and Adolis Garcia on the hand in the same inning.
Rangers manager Bruce Bochy confirmed after the game that Jung fractured his wrist on the play and would miss an extended period of time. The Rangers have yet to officially make a move but Foscue isn't on the club's 40-man roster. Texas could free up a spot by placing Jung on the 60-day IL or by removing another player from the roster.
Foscue will split time between second and third base while playing the entire 2023 season with Triple-A Round Rock. He got work this spring at first base and has played first and second through three games with Round Rock this season.
Foscue, a former first-round pick of the Rangers in 2020, is a career .275 hitter in his four minor league seasons. He has 50 home runs and 218 RBI in 288 career games.
