Rangers get more good news on Corey Seager's left wrist: 'We dodged a bullet'

The Texas Rangers haven't received much good news on the injury front this season, but that changed on Monday when the club got positive results from the MRI on Corey Seager's left wrist.

According to general manager Chris Young, the scan showed no further damage to Seager's wrist after an X-ray conducted on Saturday revealed that the slugger avoided a fracture.

"We got good news today. Corey underwent an MRI this morning and it did not reveal any more damage, which confirmed what was on the X-ray," Young said on the GBag Nation on 105.3 The Fan Monday afternoon. "Sometimes the X-ray gives you an OK view and then the MRI shows something different. In this case, they aligned. So, this is hopefully going to be a matter of days for Corey based on pain and swelling, so we dodged a bullet on that."

Seager was injured when he was hit by a 90 mph fastball thrown by Baltimore’s Cade Povich in the fifth inning Saturday. He immediately fell to the ground in agonizing pain before getting up and walking off the field.

The Rangers begin a critical six-game homestand Tuesday against the San Diego Padres and they certainly could use all the offensive fire power they can get.

Which brings us to Josh Jung, who remains sidelined after experiencing inflammation in the tendon in his surgically repaired wrist.

Young said the inflammation in the tendon "hasn't calmed down completely," but the club hopes that the third baseman "turns a corner" in the next two days.

"I can't predict a timeline. We desperately need him and are excited that he's close to being back. I don't think he'll need much time on a rehab assignment once that thing calms down, but we're not there yet."
