DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - When the Rangers traded for first baseman Nate Lowe, they did so with the intention of seeing what he could do with everyday at-bats. And boy are they glad they did.
Lowe is on a tear through the first five games of the season, hitting .381 with four home runs and a whopping 14 RBI.
Lowe had 10 RBI going into last night's game vs the Blue Jays, and he padded on four more on two two-run home runs to help lead the Rangers to a 7-4 win.
“I feel like I’m a product of this team being a team,” said Lowe. “I don’t feel like I get RBIs if (David) Dahl’s not in scoring position, if (Joey) Gallo’s not on base, if Kiner’s not leading off the game with a hit, if (Guzman) doesn’t go deep there and provide another run.”
The RBI total puts him in some rare company as MLB Stats reports that Lowe is just the third player in MLB history to have at least 14 RBI through five games in a season. Former Ranger Chris Davis had 17 RBI with the Orioles in 2017, and Red Sox Hall of Famer Bobby Doerr had 14 RBI in 1941.
After the game, Lowe was rewarded with the cowboy hat given out to the club's top performer in any game the Rangers win this season.
Lowe also joined the GBag Nation on the Rangers player show Tuesday. You can listen to the interview below (starting at 16:30).
