The Rangers are placing outfielder Adolis Garcia on the 10-day injured list with a "right patellar tendon strain" and are calling up top prospect Evan Carter to take his place on the active roster, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports.
The Rangers announced Carter's promotion to the big league club on Thursday afternoon but have yet to officially place Garcia on the IL.
Garcia was injured when he attempted to rob a home run that came off the bat of Astros outfielder Michael Brantley in Wednesday's 12-3 loss. Garcia came down awkwardly after jumping near the right field wall.
According to Grant, the Rangers are "cautiously optimistic" that Garcia can still return this season.
Carter, the No. 8 prospect in all of baseball per MLB pipeline, is batting .288 with a .413 OBP between three minor league levels this season. He spent the majority of his time with Double-A Frisco, posting a .284 average with 12 home runs and 62 RBI.
Since being promoted to Triple-A Round Rock last week, the recently turned 21 year old is hitting .353 and has a .436 OBP in eight games.
