Report: Rangers promoting top pitching prospect Owen White

The Rangers are calling up their top pitching prospect, Owen White, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.

White, a second-round pick out of a North Carolina high school in 2018 (No. 55 overall), is the club's No. 2 prospect behind outfielder Evan Carter, according to MLB Pipeline. He is the No. 47 ranked prospect in MLB.

White is 2-3 with a 3.54 ERA across 11 starts this season for the Frisco RoughRiders, the club's Double-A affiliate. The 23-year-old has struck out 45 hitters in 53 1/3 innings pitched.

In his most recent outing, White allowed one hit and no runs in seven innings of work against Corpus Christi.

It's unknown when White will make his MLB debut, but it could come in a relief role as the Rangers announced that Cody Bradford would be recalled from Triple-A Round Rock to start Tuesday against the Angels in place of Jon Gray, whose start will be pushed back a couple of days due to a blister.

Bradford threw eight innings on June 9 and will be pitching on short rest, so White could be called upon to give the Rangers some innings out of the bullpen after the club's other long-man, Cole Ragans, threw 27 pitches in Monday's loss to the Angels.

On the K&C Masterpiece Tuesday on 105.3 The Fan, Rangers manager Bruce Bochy couldn't confirm that White would be called up but acknowledged that more moves would be made before the game to alleviate the club's pitching issues.
