DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - The Rangers have acquired first baseman Nate Lowe, first baseman Jake Guenther and a player to be named later in exchange for infielder Osleivis Basabe, catcher/outfielder Heriberto Hernandez and outfielder Alexander Ovalles, the club announced Thursday afternoon.
According to MLB.com's rankings, Basabe is the Rangers' 20th best prospect, while Hernandez ranks as their 26th best prospect. Ovalles is not among the club's top-30 prospects.
Lowe, 25, hit .224 with four home runs and 11 RBI in 21 games last season. He was recalled by the Rays on Sep. 1 and stuck on with the club through the rest of the season. The former 13th round pick started at first base for Tampa Bay in Game 1 of their wild-card series vs the Blue Jays. However, he didn't appear on the club's roster for the rest of the postseason.
In 71 career games, Lowe hit .251 with 11 home runs and 30 RBI.
Guenther, a former TCU Horned Frog, was selected by the Rays in the seventh-round of the 2019 MLB Draft. The 23-year-old appeared in 48 games for the Princeton Rays, the club's former Advanced Rookie-level team, where he hit .320 with two home runs and 30 RBI.
The Rangers have called a 2:30 CT press conference to discuss the trade.
