The Texas Rangers have announced the 26-man roster for their Wild Card Series matchup against the Tampa Bay Rays, and reliever Jonathan Hernandez is not on it.
According to Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News, Hernandez was left off the roster due to a shoulder injury.
Hernandez's absence can not be understated, as he was one of the club's most reliable relievers over the last two weeks of the season. Over his last five appearances out of the bullpen, Hernandez pitched 5 1/3 scoreless innings, didn't allow any walks, and struck out seven.
Right-handed reliever Grant Anderson, who hasn't appeared in a game for the Rangers since August 25, will take Hernandez's place on the roster.
Anderson had a 5.05 ERA in 26 appearances with the Rangers this season.
Also absent from the roster is Ezequiel Duran, who has played sparingly down the stretch. Manager Bruce Bochy elected to go with a third catcher in Austin Hedges over Duran.
