DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - With the losses mounting, the Texas Rangers have called up one of their top prospects, Leody Taveras.

To make room for the 21-year-old, the club designated Rob Refsnyder for assignment Monday.


Taveras made his major league debut in the season opener vs. Colorado. In that game, he was used as a defensive replacement for the ninth inning.

Taveras was optioned to the club's alternate site on July 28.

He hit .292 with 2 home runs and 2 RBI in 13 Summer Camp intrasquad games.

The club also activated catcher Robinson Chirinos from the 10-day IL and placed right-handed pitcher Jesse Chavez on the 10-day IL retroactive to Aug. 23 with a sprained left big toe.
