DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - The Red Sox have a need in their starting rotation and the Rangers are in rebuilding mode. So with that in mind ...
Who says no to this Red Sox trade with this Rangers?
Red Sox get: SP Kyle Gibson.
Rangers get: SP Tanner Houck and a PTBNL.
If Gibson, who has been simply dominant (6-0, 1.98 ERA) for the 33-52 Rangers, was on the last year of his contract the Red Sox might pass on this one. But he's not. The 33-year-old is in the second year of a three-year, $28 million deal and is due to make $7 million in 2022.

Considering Houck's success during his brief experience in the major leagues, it is easy to simply suggest the righty will be a foundation piece for the Red Sox and they should ride that. Six earned runs in 27 innings is pretty good. The 25-year-old also sports a 4.35 ERA and a 1.08 WHIP with Triple-A Worcester.
But the Red Sox might still feel like they need a no-doubt-about-it starter heading into the postseason. This version of Gibson would be that guy.
Boston may balk at the inclusion of a "player to be named later" in the deal, but it's hard to argue against Texas asking for a big haul for a guy who may be selected as the starting pitcher for the American League in the All-Star Game.
Houck is the Red Sox No. 6 rated prospect, according to MLB.com.
