If not for a hamstring injury that cost Corey Seager several games early in the season, the Rangers shortstop would be neck-and-neck with Angels star Shohei Ohtani in the race for American League MVP. Heck, he still might have a shot at it when the season is all said and done.
Seager's numbers this season are out-of-this-world good. He's slashing .358 with a 1.060 OPS and has 10 home runs and 45 RBI across 173 at-bats.
Why are his numbers so good? According to a recent study done by ESPN, Seager is the biggest winner from MLB's shift ban that was implemented before this season.
According to ESPN's findings, Seager's BAPIP (batting average on balls put in play) went from .357 (2015-16) to .290 during the shift era (2017-22). This year, with the shift banned, his BAPIP is a whopping .394.
RJ Choppy and Bobby Belt discussed Seager's incredible numbers on Friday's show.
