The Washington Football Team will hereby be known as the Washington Commanders, the team announced officially on Wednesday.
This draws to conclusion an 18-month long search for a new team name after abandoning its former "Redskins" moniker after 87 years in July 2020.

Washington revealed its new team name on NBC's "TODAY" show and is set to formally announce its new name later Wednesday morning during a press event at FedEx Field. It also simultaneously made the announcement on its newly rebranded @Commanders Twitter account.
