The Yankees have been decimated by injury and illness over the last week, but they finally get a reinforcement back on Tuesday.
The team announced that Rougned Odor, who has been out since May 4 with a sprained knee following a scar collision at home plate with Astros catcher Martin Maldonado, has been reinstated from the 10-day IL. The infielder is now eligible to play in the team’s final three games in Texas, where Odor played his home games for his entire pro career with the Rangers before the Yankees traded for him in April.
Odor, who signed a big six year, $49.6 million deal with the Rangers in 2017, struggled badly at the plate in recent seasons before coming to New York, where he showed some pop with four home runs in 61 at-bats, but some of his hitting troubles still carried over from Texas, as he is batting just .164 with a .632 OPS so far this season.
Odor, who has picked up a few clutch hits for the Bombers this year, gives the Yanks some needed infield depth while Gleyber Torres awaits a return from the COVID-19 IL. Tyler Wade has been seeing more playing time while Torres and Odor were out.
