The Ravens free agency frenzy will soon kick off and cap space is at a premium. With players such as Matthew Judon, Michael Pierce, and Jimmy Smith all looking for new deals, the Ravens need to use a variety of methods to create cap room.

After cutting safety Tony Jefferson and saving $7 million, the Ravens may look to trade a player to save even more space.

Two intriguing names that have been discussed in trade talks as the league year nears opening: #Ravens QB Robert Griffin III and #Raiders G Gabe Jackson, sources say. Jackson is due $9.6M and RGIII is due $2M. Both contracts are not guaranteed and both are tradable.

Backup quarterback Robert Griffin III's name has been circulating in trade talks, according to Ian Rapoport.

Griffin III, 30, has served as a valuable backup to Lamar Jackson, providing guidance and leadership for the reigning league MVP.

Griffin III started one game in 2019, resulting in a week 17 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers. In the win, Griffin III tallied 146 total yards of offense in a game where the Ravens defense shut down the Steelers.

Although Griffin III is not the same quarterback he was in 2012, when he won Rookie of the Year, a team may look to acquire his leadership and versatility ahead of the 2020 season.

He can still be a serviceable backup in the league and if the Ravens were able to acquire a draft pick in exchange for his services, the marriage between both would have certainly paid off.

Griffin III joined the Ravens in 2018, after taking a year off from football to regain his health. Two years removed, Griffin may be involved in a trade resulting in a mid-level draft pick and a new place to extend his career.
