It's no stranger to anyone that the Baltimore Ravens love their compensatory picks. They have received a league-leading 50 picks since the compensatory formula began in 1994.

The Ravens are currently projected to receive two compensatory picks in 2020, according to Over The Cap – A third-round pick for C.J. Mosley, and a fourth-round pick for John Brown.

But that could be in jeopardy.

After signing a massive five-year, $85 million deal with the New York Jets, Mosley is dealing with a groin injury that's limited him to just two games this season. Head Coach Adam Gase told reporters last week that injured reserve is a possibility for Mosley this season.

Gase on whether IR is a possibility for C.J. Mosley: “Everything is on the table right now.” Ominous. #Jets

The NFL's compensatory formula isn't public knowledge, but experts have been able to derive factors and accurately project picks based on a number of factors. These include average salary and playing time. If Mosley doesn't meet a certain threshold of playing time this season, there's a chance the Ravens' projected third-round compensatory pick could fall to a fourth-round pick.

I wouldn't say definite, but the odds would go up considerably. It would likely depend on leaguewide factors that are too difficult to explain in 280 character chunks.

Remember, Za'Darius Smith was canceled out by the Earl Thomas signing and Terrell Suggs was canceled out by the Mark Ingram signing. The Ravens also released special teams ace Justin Bethel after Brent Urban's release from the Titans to preserve their fourth round compensatory pick from John Brown.

It's a complicated process altogether, but Head Coach John Harbaugh was transparent following the release of Bethel that the Ravens take the compensatory formula into high consideration. That shows with how they've built their roster under Ozzie Newsome and Eric DeCosta.
