As sad as it to write, Marshal Yanda has offically retired from the NFL after a 13-year career in Baltimore.

Marshal Yanda: “Today I’m retiring from the NFL. They do things the right way every day here. I’m very fortunate to be here the entire time.”

The Ravens may elect to promote a player currently on the roster to fill Yanda's spot, but there is another option they should explore.

The Ravens should consider drafting Michigan offensive lineman Cesar Ruiz as a possible heir-apparent

In 2019, Ruiz earned second-team all-conference honors and started all 13 games for the Wolverines. During his career at Michigan, he started 31 games including five at right guard.

Ruiz has the versatility to play all five positions on the offensive line, particularly within the interior. His sound technique and resilient motor has him projected as a starter within his first two seasons in the NFL.

Ruiz had an impressive combine performance, running a 5.08 40-yard dash and 28 reps on the bench press.

Ruiz excels in the ground game, perfect for the Ravens attack led by Lamar Jackson. Although his arm length draws a concern, Ruiz' massive frame (6'4, 319 pounds) will translate well to the NFL and as a starting guard.

Whether the Ravens decide to draft a linebacker, wide receiver, or lineman with the 28th pick, there is certaintly some flexibility they have in making their decision.

With Yanda's retirement becoming official, the Ravens may be able to draft his future replacement in April.
