Ravens held their second day of mandatory minicamp on Wednesday. Alex Lewis and Patrick Mekari were not in attendance as well as Michael Pierce and Cyrus Jones, again.
"I talked to him," Tony Jefferson said after practice Wednesday. "Weight is weight. If that's what the predicament is, then it is what it is. But we love Mike. We're glad to have him back, but he knows what he has to do and he works his tail off."
Mark Andrews completed a pass from Lamar Jackson for a 5-yard touchdown. Bennett Jackson had two noted interceptions at minicamp, both thrown by Lamar Jackson. One was an interception in the endzone, the other was thrown across the middle, above Willie Snead, into Bennett's arms.
Lamar Jackson also had a pass that was batted down by outside linebacker Shane Ray. However, Lamar Jackson did complete, a rather low pass, to veteran tight end Nick Boyle. Jackson made some completions to Chris Moore, as well, who has been a stand out at minicamp and voluntaries. Robert Griffin III also threw a pick that landed in rookie free agent Otara Alaka's arms.
Tony Jefferson, Brandon Carr, Earl Thomas, and Maurice Canady had fast feet in the back-pedaling drills they did in the position part of practice. Some other standouts have been DeShon Elliot and Chuck Clarke in the back field. Elliot missed last season because of a broken arm. He has looked quick in camp for the Ravens and even picked off a pass on Wednesday.
"To me, he' just picked up where he left off right before he got hurt, and it's just going to be another fun piece," Don Martindale, (Wink), said after practice about Elliot. Losing Eric Weddle after the conclusion to last season, Elliot could help on the defense, along with Clark. Jefferson said they call Clark, "Little Weddle." "He has the brains and the brights and the smarts to line everybody up and do that, and he's a playmaker as well."
Although Marquise Brown could not fully participate in practice, he did work on catching techniques with assistant head coach David Culley. Culley is also the wide receivers coach and passing coordinator.
Greg Roman said on Wednesday, "he gets a little extra meeting time because he doesn't get to do the stuff on the field that some of the guys get to do." Brown is supposed to be back practicing for training camp in August.
The offensive line consisted of Matt Skura at center and the only slight difference from last year's is having Jermaine Eluemunor at left guard again. With Alex Lewis not practicing right now, Eluemunor has filled in and depending on how training camp goes, could be a permanent spot for him. Eluemunor filled in for Lewis several times last year. Lewis missed seven games last year, two because of a neck injury and the last five were for a shoulder injury. Bradley Bozeman played center with Ben Powers at left guard, Greg Senat - left tackle, Randin Crecelius at right guard, and James Hurst at right tackle.
Some other side notes on Wednesday's practice were Tavon Young, Terrell Bonds, Willie Snead IV, Sean Modster, Joe Horn Jr. all worked as returners. Rookie free agent, Antoine Wesley was able to reach for a pass that was thrown too high for him by Trace McSorley. Covered by Justin Bethel, Wesley grabbed the football and brought it in for a completion. Fourth round pick Ben Powers played center in drills with all three quarterbacks on Wednesday.
Ravens finalize their last day of mandatory minicamp tomorrow. Cyrus Jones and Michael Pierce are not expected to practice, again tomorrow. This will be the last time the media will get their last look of the players until training camp in August.
