Baltimore Ravens football is officially back.
The Ravens will take the field tonight at 7:30 p.m. for their first preseason matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The two teams faced off in joint practices on Monday and Tuesday.
It's an exciting time as we'll see the Ravens at M&T Bank Stadium for the first time since their wild-card loss to the Los Angeles Chargers. Lamar Jackson was the starter then and now the unquestioned No. 1 quarterback under center.
But don't expect to see much of No.8 tonight.
It's standard procedure for the starter to generally get around one to two series in the first preseason game. We may not even see Jackson at all if Head Coach John Harbaugh doesn't feel justified in doing so.
Instead, expect to see a lot of rookie sixth-round pick Trace McSorley and Joe Callahan. The backups will be on display for both sides throughout the majority of the game.
Jackson has a lot to prove heading into his second season, but nothing that won't come in the first preseason game. And it shouldn't, Jackson has a crucial season ahead of him as the Ravens figure to be contenders in the AFC North playoff picture this season.
