The Ironman, Cal Ripken Jr joined the Scott & Jeremy show today. Cal shared some of his favorite memories about the late great Frank Robinson who passed away last Thursday.
Cal was with the team when his father Cal Ripken Sr was fired as the teams manager and replaced with Frank Robinson in 1988. He shared the conversation he and his brother Bill Ripken had with Frank about that transition and his first impression of his new manager.
Oriole pitchers and catchers reported today for the start of Spring Training and Cal told a hilarious story about Frank's Spring Training conditioning test he gave players and how he wouldn't allow Cal to do his test early.
Frank was a Triple Crown winner with the Orioles and Cal said that Robinson was the best he had ever seen in his ability to recognize what pitch was coming. Cal also shared that he had hit a low point in his career mentally and how Frank helped him get out of that funk.
The guys also discussed the current free agent market in major league baseball and the increased use of analytics.
