For the first time since 1989, the Orioles hold the top overall pick in the MLB Amateur Draft. Oregon State catcher Adley Rutschman is the projected top overall pick and MLB Network's Harold Reynolds is hopping onboard the hype train. He recently interviewed Rutschman and he joined Scott & Jeremy today to talk about what he learned about the 21-year-old catcher in that interview.
Reynolds mentioned that he talked to numerous scouts around the league that have given glowing reviews on Rutschman. Some people have compared Rutschman to Matt Wieters but Reynolds believes Rutschman is more advanced at this stage of his career and he said one scout told him that Rutschman is "the best catcher since Johnny Bench".
Reynolds also spoke about Rutschmans skill set behind the plate and at the plate. He said that he thinks Rutschman has the capability of playing in the major leagues as soon as next season and has no doubt that the Orioles will select him with the top overall pick.
