Orioles' late-season run line woes carry into 2024

The Baltimore Orioles were dominant against the run line through the first 143 games of the 2023 season. They went 88-55 to all but guarantee a second straight season covering at least 55 percent of their games.

But they finished just 8-14  — by far the worst 22-game stretch of the season — including three straight failed covers in the postseason. And those woes have carried into this season.

After obliterating the run line in season-opening wins over the Los Angeles Angels, the Orioles have dropped five of their last seven. In the five ATS losses, they’ve failed to cover by an average of more than three runs.

Despite the swoon, things are still good for regular bettors. Since the start of the 2023 season, the Orioles have an MLB-best ROI of 11.4 percent on run lines. They also lead since the start of the 2022 season (11.7%).
