As the Baltimore Ravens prepare for next month's training camp, roster transitions and coaching adjustments are generating significant pressure across the organization.
Appearing on Vinny & Haynie, Jonas Shaffer of The Baltimore Banner evaluated the legacy of former offensive coordinator Todd Monken. Shaffer gave Monken's three-year tenure an "A-minus" grade, highlighting his role in elevating quarterback Lamar Jackson to MVP heights, despite a "perfect storm" of offensive line struggles and locker room tension last season. Monken has since departed to join the Cleveland Browns.
The Ravens face an immediate void upfront following the loss of All-Pro center Tyler Linderbaum. Shaffer warned that finding a viable successor is the team's most pressing challenge, predicting that opposing defensive coordinators will target the center position heavily in the opening weeks of the season.
The pressure now shifts to incoming play-caller Declan Doyle. Inheriting an offense riddled with personnel questions across the line, wide receivers, and tight ends, the young coordinator faces a steep learning curve. However, Shaffer suggested Doyle may benefit from an initial grace period, pointing to tempered public expectations from team owner Steve Bisciotti.
Addressing local speculation regarding a potential homecoming for veteran wide receiver Stefon Diggs, who was recently seen working out at the University of Maryland, Shaffer downplayed the likelihood of a signing. He noted that the front office is more inclined to prioritize defensive depth, particularly at outside linebacker, over high-profile additions to the receiving corps.
