Weather, specifically lightning, delayed the start of Thursday night’s highly-anticipated season opener between Boise State and Central Florida by nearly three hours. How did Boise starting quarterback Hank Bachmeier spend that time off? By hitting the books.
These screenshots, courtesy of Barstool Boise, show Bachmeier, dressed in full uniform, checking into a virtual business class being held over Zoom.
A two-time Mountain West scholar athlete, the junior from California clearly takes his academics seriously. On the field, Bachmeier completed 25-of-39 passes for 263 yards with two touchdowns and an interception as the Broncos squandered a 21-point, first-half lead in a 36-31 loss to UCF at 3MG Stadium in Orlando.
Playing their first season under Gus Malzahn (who coached Auburn to a National Championship appearance in 2014), Central Florida is reportedly one of four schools—the others being Cincinnati, Houston and BYU—the Big 12 is pursuing as replacements for Oklahoma and Texas, who are slated to join the SEC in 2025.
This weekend in college football should be a good one with plenty of hyped matchups including Clemson (No. 3) versus Georgia (No. 5) in Charlotte and another neutral-site game in Atlanta pitting 14th-ranked Miami against reigning National Champ Alabama.
