The Evgeny Kuznetsov era is officially over, as the Capitals have dealt Kuzi to the Carolina Hurricanes for a 2025 third-round pick.
Like with their other trades so far this week, the Capitals will retain 50 percent of Kuznetsov’s salary as part of the deal.
Kuznetsov, 31, was the No. 26 overall pick in 2010 and has 171 goals, 397 assists, and one Stanley Cup in 723 career games with Washington. This season, however, he has just six goals and 11 assists in 44 games, and has not played since entering the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program last month.
The Capitals now have 26 draft picks over the next three seasons.
