Johansson, 32, has registered 28 points (13 goals, 15 assists) for the Capitals during the 2022-23 season. This concludes his second stint with Washington. Originally drafted by the Capitals as a first-round pick (24th overall) in 2009, Johansson spent his first seven NHL seasons with Washington before being traded to the New Jersey Devils in July 2017. Johansson was traded back to the Capitals by the Seattle Kraken in March 2022.

The Capitals have already traded defenseman Dmitry Orlov and forward Garnet Hathaway to the Boston Bruins for forward Craig Smith and a trio of future draft picks.

The trade deadline arrives Friday, March 3 at 3 p.m.
