Terps land first-ever football recruit from Savannah, hopeful for No. 1 hoops player in Maryland

The Terps need to win two of their final three games – starting Saturday afternoon in Illinois – to be bowl-eligible for the 20025 season…but it’s also never too early in this landscape to prep for 2026 and beyond, the latter of which Mike Locksley and crew officially did earlier this week.

“So (Thursday), Maryland football got their second commitment for 2027: Brexton Bell, a 5-foot-11, 180-pound three-star corner from Savannah, Georgia,” TerrapinTimes.com’s Keith Kavanaugh told Vinny and Haynie on Friday. “I don't believe Maryland has ever recruited an athlete from Savannah, Georgia, so that's a first.”

Kavanaugh isn’t sure Locksley will still be here at that point, but whomever it is now has the first athlete from Savannah headed to College Park.

And also hopefully headed to campus next fall? The No. 1 ranked recruit in Maryland’s basketball landscape, Baba Oladatun from Silver Spring and Blake High School, who will announce his decision on Wednesday.

“Top 10 national player, perhaps the greatest player out of Montgomery County, and a program changer as a 6-foot-10 small forward,” Kavanaugh said. “It’s Arkansas, Maryland, Kentucky, and Georgetown, and right now, there’s a huge money NIL battle thrashing around with a bidding war for him. Arkansas is the presumptive leader, but Maryland, both his sisters go there, they're both honor students there, and he visited last week officially. That would be a huge get, but everyone's driving up the bid, so we'll just have to see how much money Maryland has in NIL.”
