The prospect of Yankees star slugger Aaron Judge potentially missing home games appears to no longer be an issue, after multiple reports indicated that Mayor Eric Adams would be lifting the city's vaccine mandate for athletes and entertainers.
The guidelines have sidelined Nets star Kyrie Irving for all of his team's home games to date this season, but it appears he will be back on the floor at Barclays Center on Sunday.
Judge, speaking to reporters after the Yankees' Grapefruit League game against the Baltimore Orioles at Steinbrenner Field in Tampa on Wednesday night, addressed the apparent change in policy after the Bombers' 7-1 win.
"I'm happy Kyrie can play some home games," Judge said, according to Bryan Hoch of MLB.com.
Judge has been evasive about his vaccine status, sidestepping questions upon reporting to spring training earlier this month. And his carefully phrased response about Irving did little to shed light on his own situation.
Judge, a California native, is a self-professed Clippers fan but seems to have taken to the Nets in recent years, appearing at several of their games in Brooklyn and even donning a custom Nets No. 99 jersey.
The soon-to-be 30-year-old outfielder is entering his final year before a potential date with free agency, but the Yankees are widely reported to be interested in re-signing or extending him.
Yankees first baseman Anthony Rizzo, who re-signed with the team in free agency last week, was also rumored to be unvaccinated.
