The Houston Astros are set to acquired first baseman/outfielder Trey Mancini from the Baltimore Orioles. Dan Connolly of The Athletic was the first to report the deal.

Mancini is slashing .268/.347/.404 with 10 home runs, 41 RBIs, 35 walks and a .751 OPS. The 30-year-old will join an Astros team looking to the World Series for the fourth time in six seasons. He'll give Dusty Baker another option at first base given that 38-year-old Yuli Gurriel has just a .685 OPS in 2022.
Meanwhile, the Orioles traded Mancini despite being 51-51 and just three games out of the second Wild Card spot in the American League. The free-agent-to-be won't get to see the full fruits of the rebuild in Baltimore after having been one of the lone bright spots during an ugly stretch of seasons at Camden Yards.
As part of the deal, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports that the Astros will send outfielder Jose Siri to the Tampa Bay Rays. Siri had been at Triple-A after slashing just .178/.238/.304 in 135 at-bats this season, but he has eight defensive runs saved in 2022, so he could be part of the solution in center field as Kevin Cash and company try to hold onto the final Wild Card spot in the American League without Kevin Kiermaier.
RHP Seth Johnson will head to the the Orioles from the Rays. Johnson had been the No. 7 overall prospect in the Tampa Bay organization, but Rosenthal notes that he's slated to have Tommy John surgery soon.
Meanwhile, the Rays will also send righty Jayden Murray to the Astros. Murray, 25, was recently promoted to Triple-A after going 8-2 with a 2.83 ERA over 76 1/3 at Double-A.
