Chris Sale isn't apologizing for his meltdown in Worcester on Wednesday, but he does acknowledge that he didn't exactly handle his rough outing in the most mature fashion.
GHS: Sale's temper tantrum was embarrassing
After walking five batters in 3 2/3 innings, Sale was caught on video destroying a TV (a TV that was already broken, per reports) hanging in the tunnel at Polar Park.
Meeting with reporters on Thursday, Sale acknowledged that he "threw a seven-year-old temper tantrum" and "acted like an idiot," but he said he doesn't regret it.
Sale said that kind of passion is what's helped him get to where he is in the first place. He added that he didn't know he was being recorded, as he learned long ago not to react like that in the public eye. He seemed to take issue with the video getting out.
Sale also confirmed a report from Joe McDonald of the Worcester Telegram & Gazette that he bought a new TV, which cost $1,100. In addition, Sale spent $6,000 buying lunch and dinner for 55 WooSox players and staff.
Sale said Wednesday night that despite his lack of command and visible frustration, he believed he was ready to return to the majors. It appears that may very well be the plan. Red Sox manager Alex Cora said prior to Thursday night's game that Sale will pitch again on Tuesday, and that it will likely be for Boston, in Tampa.
