When Manny Ramirez was introduced as a member of the Red Sox 20 years ago one of the first lines he uttered had to do with his disdain for the Yankees. It was the epitome of playing to the crowd.
Well, as the 48-year-old Ramirez prepares to play for Sydney Blue Sox of the Australian Baseball League, he took a similar route.
“As a life-long Boston Red Sox fan this is a dream come true,” Blue Sox owner Adam Dobb told theabl.com.
“Manny has been interested in the Australian Baseball League for quite a while now.
“It was his preference to play down here in a big city and we’re thrilled to have a player of his calibre in Sydney.”
Ramirez last played professionally in Shikoku Island League Plus for the Kochi Fighting Dogs during the 2017 season.
The ABL's season is slated to kick off Dec. 18.
