With the return of J.D. Davis from the 60-day IL, the Mets finally had all of their Opening Day starters back on the active roster after weathering a relentless run of injuries through the first three months of the season.

But they may have lost another right after getting Davis back.

Francisco Lindor left Friday’s game in the middle of the fifth inning due to right side soreness, which came after the shortstop, batting from the left side, grounded out to second and barely made it out of the batter’s box, immediately grabbing for his right side before walking back to the dugout. He didn’t return to the game, and the Mets will now wait for test results to see what kind of injury their superstar is dealing with.

“When he had the at-bat he put the ball in play and didn’t come out of the box like he normally does, and he just told me he had some soreness in his right side,” manager Luis Rojas said after the game. “That’s what I got here. He said ‘No, I can’t go.’”

Lindor’s soreness comes at the worst time for him, as he had finally started to look like his typical self after a brutal start to the season. In his last 11 games, Lindor is hitting .353 with a 1.018 OPS and two home runs, raising his season OPS from .661 to .702 in a matter of two weeks.

“I still don’t know if it’s something he didn’t want to push at the time,” Rojas said. “We’re going to run more tests…but what I’ve got right now is right side soreness. We’ll find out more when we run the tests [Saturday] morning.”

The Mets can now only hope Saturday’s tests come back clean and it is a day-to-day situation for Lindor, who looks to be finally figuring things out at the plate in his debut season with New York.

“My level of concern is obviously high, just from not knowing,” Rojas said. “Let’s wait and find out more about it.”
