New York Mets manager Luis Rojas has been suspended two games, Major League Baseball announced on Monday.

Rojas was suspended and also fined an undisclosed amount for his excessive arguing with the umpires in the bottom of the first inning against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Sunday, the league said in a statement.

Rojas had made contact with the home plate umpire while arguing a call that a dribbler hit down the third base line by the Pirates’ Kevin Newman was actually a foul ball.

The call inexplicably led to three runs for the Pirates because Mets pitcher Taijuan Walker flipped the ball toward the Pittsburgh dugout in a failed attempt to stop it from rolling back into fair territory.

Walker argued the call instead of retrieving the ball, which allowed for the runs to score.

Rojas was extremely heated over the call and was immediately ejected upon bumping the umpire. The other umpires, as well as the Mets coaching staff, had to hold him back as he continued to berate the umpire.

Rojas will begin to serve his suspension on Monday night as the Mets play the Cincinnati Reds.
