Luis Rojas has officially moved across town, as the New York Yankees announced Monday they have hired the former Mets manager as their new third base coach.
Rojas, 40, had spent the previous 16 years on the Mets’ organization. He was the major-league manager from 2020-21, going 103-119, and a major-league quality control coach in 2019. Prior to that, he had spent five seasons (2006-10) as a coach at various levels.

He replaces Phil Nevin, one of four coaches not retained by the Yankees following the 2020 season.
With Rojas’ hire, the Yankees still have openings on Aaron Boone’s staff at hitting coach – where both head coach Marcus Thames and assistant P.J. Pilittere were let go – and first base coach, which is vacant after Reggie Willits decided to leave the organization and become a volunteer assistant at his alma mater, the University of Oklahoma.
