Following Matt Harvey’s testimony in the Tyler Skaggs overdose trial, in which he admitted to using drugs earlier in his career, former Mets manager Terry Collins went on a media tour discussing the pitcher’s demons.
In addition to shedding more light on Harvey’s drug use and what the team did and did not know, Collins also revealed that Harvey battled depression and openly had suicidal thoughts.

It was a startling fact to share in what was already an eyebrow-raising day as many fans learned for the first time just how deep Harvey’s personal issues in New York ran.
But Harvey only discussed these matters because he was granted immunity for his sworn testimony.
The fact that Collins, who appeared on WFAN and gave interviews with the New York Post and SNY, used the media as a microphone to not only further discuss Harvey’s drug issues, but also reveal his mental health struggles and depression — seemingly without Harvey’s permission — did not sit well for many fans who believed that is no one’s business to discuss other than Harvey’s.
While Collins is a beloved figure within the Mets community, many fans and others — including a former Mets player — ripped the former manager for how he handled the conversation about Harvey’s personal struggles.
While Collins was likely trying to add more context behind the revelations Harvey made on Wednesday, he clearly did so in a way that many viewed as a violation of Harvey's trust and privacy and may need to do some damage control as part of the fallout.
