White Sox left fielder Eloy Jimenez left the team's spring training game Wednesday with what the team later called left shoulder discomfort. Jimenez will be further evaluated and an update on his status is expected Thursday, the team said.
His injury occurred during the top of the second inning as the White Sox faced the Athletics. Jimenez extended his left arm over the left-field wall in an attempt to rob a home run hit by Oakland catcher Sean Murphy. Jimenez went down on the warning track in clear pain before leaving the ballgame.
Jimenez has a history of incidents around outfield walls, including suffering a head injury after hitting the wall in a game last July. He also suffered an ankle injury leaping at the wall in April 2019 during his rookie season.
The 24-year-old Jimenez has hit .276 with 45 home runs and 120 RBIs over his first 177 games with the White Sox.
The White Sox open the regular season at the Los Angeles Angels on April 1.
