The set of TNT's NBA pregame show got notably testy on Wednesday night, when analysts Shaquille O'Neal and Kenny Smith were engaged in some passive-aggressive banter.
Things got heated on the "NBA on TNT" pregame show when Smith seemed to suggest Shaq was late arriving to the set.
The Hall of Famer denied being late, calling on an off-camera producer to verify his claim. Shaq, seemingly annoyed, then joked that he'd put his "paws" on Smith if he tried to be "funny" at his expense again.
The strange scene unfolded when Shaq said a good coach can get the most out of his players with a pointed glare rather than explicit instruction.
Smith, mimicking a coach's glare, then said, "No, that means you need to be here on time."
"First of all, we started at 6:30," O'Neal said. "I was here at 6:29. Am I correct, Rob? Second of all, if you try to be funny on TV again, I'm gonna show you funny. I'm gonna put these paws on you."
"I'm Pat Reilly over here," Smith responded. "You ain't hitting Pat Reilly."
At one point, host Ernie Johnson put up his hands and implored the bickering analysts to "stop."
