Less than a week after returning to the team that he spent the first nine seasons of his career with, Newton replaced P.J. Walker on second-and-goal and ran the ball in against the Arizona Cardinals for his 71st career rushing touchdown:
The former NFL MVP was hit with an unsportsmanlike conduct for his celebration. One Twitter user had a great response, saying "What's the penalty for? Being too f------ good?"
After stopping the Arizona Cardinals on fourth down in their own territory, Christian McCaffrey narrowly missed scoring a touchdown. Newton came in under center again at the two-yard line, this time connecting with Robby Anderson on a touchdown pass:
