Brian Flores, Brian Daboll top coaching choices of several Giants GM candidates: report

By , Audacy

The New York Giants need to get their general manager in place before they can begin their head coaching search, but a few candidates’ names are already beginning to surface.

According to Ralph Vacchiano of SNY, former Dolphins head coach Brian Flores and Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll are on the shortlist of those within the organization and several of the GM candidates they have been interviewing.

Giants owner John Mara has said that whoever they hire as GM will ultimately get to bring in the coach of their choice.

Per Vacchiano, the Giants should have a GM in place by the end of the week with first-round interviews wrapping up on Monday and finalists coming in by the middle of the week.

While the Giants and the GM they hire could be on the same page with their preferred coaching choices, it is possible that both Flores and Daboll are off the market before they can get an interview.

Flores has already interviewed with the Bears and Texans while Daboll interviewed with the Bears and Dolphins on Sunday.

There was a report over the weekend that disgruntled Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson, who is also embroiled in a sexual misconduct and assault scandal, would like to go to New York and play for the Giants with Flores as the head coach.

Flores also grew up in Brooklyn, so the job would be somewhat of a homecoming for him, too, but a package deal of him and Watson may be tough for Mara to make with the off-field controversy the quarterback brings with him.
