The former Chiefs and Jets head coach is reprising his role as an analyst with ESPN, where he worked for the better part of a decade prior to being hired in Tempe in 2018. He will be covering both college football and the NFL for the Worldwide Leader, according to a press release.

Edwards' ill-fated stint with Arizona State was marred by a recruiting scandal and underwhelming results. The Sun Devils went 26-20 in four-plus seasons under Edwards, 68, who played collegiately for San Diego State and professionally with the Eagles, Falcons and Rams.

The hiring of Edwards by Arizona State came as a surprise given his long layoff between coaching jobs. He was dismissed by the Chiefs after the 2008 season, after three years at the helm. In Tempe, he was hired by athletic director Ray Anderson, who was previously Edwards' agent.

Edwards enjoyed his greatest success as a coach with the Jets, leading the team to a 39-41 record in the regular season while reaching the playoffs three times in five years.
