Aaron Rodgers had high expectations for his time with the Jets. Thus far, those expectations have been surpassed.
The future Hall of Fame quarterback is in his first training camp with New York following his trade to the Jets this offseason. The Jets long were a good fit for Rodgers, boasting a high-end defense and a solid collection of skill players.
As such, hopes are high for Rodgers and the Jets this season. New York pushed hard to land the quarterback, and it was clear he was tantalized by the thought of joining the Jets. Now a few weeks into training camp, he told Boomer & Gio on Tuesday that it’s going better than he thought.
“Better. Yeah, definitely better,” Rodgers said, who prefaced his effusive praise of the Jets by saying it's not a backdoor way of dissing Green Bay. “This has been better than I was even daydreaming about sitting in that hole in the ground thinking about what my life could be. Because I contemplated retirement, I contemplated coming back, and the Jets were always the team that was most interesting to me because of Robert (Saleh), because of Nathaniel (Hackett), because of the way they whooped our ass last year.
“I thought this was going to be a good ballclub, but it’s really been better than I could have expected. It feels like sometimes that I woke up inside of a dream, and that this is my life playing out. I've pinched myself various times throughout the week every single week that I’ve been here. Like how cool is my life right now? How special is this? …
“To walk in with a lot of respect from the guys and to now start the friendships that we’ve made with various guys on the team and then to just be a part of something special that has a chance. Late in your career to be able to come into work every day and know you have a chance to be in the mix in February is a special feeling.”
Of course, Rodgers and the Jets have to actually go out and perform, otherwise the warm, fuzzy feelings might be short-lived. At this point though, there’s no reason to believe the Jets will be anything but a threat in the AFC this season.
