New York Jets head coach Adam Gase has seemingly been on the hot seat forever, but it does not appear he will be going anywhere, at least not yet.

General manager Joe Douglas, who shouldered much of the blame for the Jets’ 0-8 season while addressing reporters on Tuesday, was asked about whether or not the team can get to where it needs to be with Gase as the head coach.

“Yes,” Douglas said. “Ultimately, like I said, I have to do a better job for all these coaches and players. The hope is that we can fix these problems.”

When followed up if that means Gase is part of the solution, Douglas softly said, “yes.”

It is hard to justify why the Jets would continue to stick with Gase at the helm. The team is 7-17 since he took the job last season and rank dead last in the league in total offensive yards and points per game.

Unless, of course, “part of the solution” is to tank and land Trevor Lawrence. Douglas, of course, would not admit that is the plan.

Instead, he lauded Sam Darnold as “an ultra-talented quarterback,” although he appeared non-committal when asked if he could say for sure if Darnold is the quarterback next season.

“We’re trying to get through the next eight games,” he said. “My feeling on Sam hasn’t changed. We have to do a better job surrounding him with talent.”
