Mac Watch is officially on for this week.
ESPN’s Field Yates tweeted Wednesday afternoon that Patriots quarterback Mac Jones took the majority of the team's first-team reps in practice and is expected to start on Sunday against the New York Jets. Jones was not listed on the team's injury report on Wednesday, suggesting he is full healthy.
Earlier in the day, Bill Belichick declined to name a starting quarterback during his press availability two days after benching Jones after an interception against the Chicago Bears and replacing him with Bailey Zappe.
The coach claimed Jones' removal from the game was part of a plan communicated to both quarterbacks before facing the Bears, though both quarterbacks seemed unaware of how the plan would unfold given Jones' reaction to the move and Zappe claiming he did not know he would be entering the game during the team's fourth offense of series.
Zappe then proceeded to cool off after sparking the Patriots' offense with two touchdown drives, finishing the game with three turnovers.
If the report is to be believed, Jones will get another opportunity to win back and keep his starting job for the Patriots in an important divisional matchup against the Jets.
