Mark Ingram became one of the newest members of the Houston Texans last week and he certainly does not want to see Deshaun Watson leave.
Yet, the 31-year-old running back — who has spoken with the Texans quarterback both before and after signing with the team — said he’d support whatever Watson chooses to do in an interview with NFL Network’s Taylor Bisciotti.
“I told him I support him. I understand his business,” Ingram said. “Obviously, y’all want him to be a Texan, too. Who wouldn’t? He’s a great quarterback, one of the best in the game.
“Obviously, you have a chance with Deshaun at the helm. But I wish the best for him. Whatever he chooses I support him. I got his back. I’ve always been a fan of him. Obviously, I want him to be a Texan.”
Watson’s future in Houston is a bit hazy at the moment. The 25-year-old quarterback is not pleased about the way things are going with the franchise and wants out, but the franchise does not seem to be willing to give into his desires.
Some have speculated that if Watson is not traded, he may be willing to sit out and sacrifice the $20.2 million he is owed next season.
Ingram said he does not know what Watson is planning, but does ultimately hope that he gets a chance to play with him next season in Houston.
“Nobody knows [if he will stay]. Except him, whatever’s going on with the team,” Ingram said. “I want him to be there. I want to play with Deshaun Watson. I hope he’s a Texan. I hope he stays.”
