As FOX looked to replace Troy Aikman in their No. 1 booth this offseason, one name that they reportedly kicked the tires on was former San Diego/Los Angeles Chargers and Indianapolis Colts quarterback Philip Rivers.
It sounds as though the eight-time Pro Bowler shut that conversation down relatively quickly.
According to Andrew Marchand of The New York Post, Rivers "had no interest" in joining FOX's broadcasting team.
We don't know what Rivers' reasoning for not wanting to hop into the booth was, as he's long been floated as a former star quarterback that could have success as a broadcaster. Rivers has nine children and is currently the head coach at St. Michael Catholic High School at Alabama. Perhaps the 40-year-old has plans other than broadcasting for his post playing career, which is only just beginning. Or maybe he just wasn't interested in making that commitment right now.
FOX ended up landed the biggest fish possible to eventually succeed Aikman, with Tom Brady signing a 10-year/$375 million contract to join the No. 1 broadcast team at FOX whenever his playing career concludes. In the meantime, Brady's future broadcast partner Kevin Burkhardt could be joined by former star tight end Greg Olsen as FOX looks to replaced Aikman and Joe Buck on their top announcing team.
