Rob Gronkowski announced his second retirement from the NFL this offseason in June. Although many don't think it will last long, he attested that even if his best friend and longtime teammate Tom Brady called him to return to the field, he would have to decline.
More on Gronk's retirement
“I’m done with football. Love the game. Love the game. And definitely blessed with all the opportunities the game of football has given me,“ Gronkowski said per ESPN’s Mike Reiss. “But done with football and stepping my feet into the business world and the business ventures. Just seeing what’s out there and where I can, you know, find my place.”
While we speculate whether the colorful tight end will remain retired, according to his girlfriend Camille Kostek, she isn't buying that he will stay retired forever.
“I am an honest lady, and honestly, in my heart, I didn’t feel like this one is a forever one,” Kostek said during Sports Illustrated Swim at Miami Swim Week. “So, I think maybe he’ll come back again.”
Kostek added that Gronk may try to pull a page out of Brady's playbook and shock people by announcing his return to football. Earlier this offseason, many thought the six-time Super Bowl champ was finished in the NFL -- only before unretiring just 40 days after announcing his own retirement.
“I feel like him and Tom are just having fun,” Kostek continued. “Retired, not retired, retired, not retired.”
Kostek’s comments suggest that the future Hall of Fame tight end is not completely shutting the door on a return despite his very public assertions that he's finished. It remains to be seen what his next move will be either on the field or off it.
