After Arizona got blown out by in-state rival Arizona State, 70-7, to fall to 0-5 on the year, head coach Kevin Sumlin was fired on Saturday.

Appearing on Ordway, Merloni & Fauria Wednesday, current ESPN NFL analyst Tedy Bruschi implied he was approached regarding the opening, but nothing was offered. And after thinking about it, it's not going to happen.

“I was considering it over the weekend," he said. "I made a lot of calls, did a lot of research because it’s the one job, it’s back at my alma mater, the University of Arizona.”

Bruschi added: "It’s not going to happen, guys. No.”

The former Patriots linebacker said it was intruguing, but at this point in his life it's not the time.

“I think that is something that I always thought about — running the team, coaching," Bruschi said. "We did a little bit together. There is so much going on. I talked to a lot of people that I know in the NFL ranks and the collegiate ranks over the weekend and I also talked to Heidi [wife] about it. For now, it’s kind of my turn to watch. It’s my turn to watch Heidi coach volleyball, watch my boys play lacrosse up at Endicott and football down at Bishop Feehan. That’s where I am in my life right now and although it was intriguing for me to think about and talk about and start the process a little, it was something I am not going to pursue.”

Bruschi played for the Wildcats from 1991-95.
