Lamar Jackson has dealt with criticism over his throwing abilities for all of his career. Though his 2019 MVP campaign did silence some of the doubters, there is still a large contingent of football fans that still believe he's more of a running back than a quarterback. The dip in his passing numbers in 2020 allowed those doubters to beat their drum little louder, but when taking an in-depth look at the numbers, there's one statistic that paints a slightly different picture: drop percentage. This stat takes into account the number of dropped passes by receivers in relation to the number of pass attempts. In 2020, Ravens pass-catchers dropped 7.5 percent of Lamar's passes, the highest in the league (Packers QB Aaron Rodgers was second with 6.9 percent).
Ravens fans have noticed also. Tight end Mark Andrews, Wide Receiver Marquise Brown, and Running Back JK Dobbins all had memorable drops throughout the 2020 season. But overall, is it fair to say Lamar's pass catchers are letting him down? How much of the blame falls on Lamar? Rob and Jeremy spent time on Monday's Big Bad Morning Show debating these topics and commenting on how the miscues of the Ravens current pass catchers highlight the need for a true WR1.
