This Lenten Season Perhaps Choose To Give Instead Of Sacrifice Giving Up Something

Being a Catholic the Lenten season is something we take very seriously. Growing up we did abide by the no meat and fasting rule on Friday's. We also were taught to sacrifice something we liked for 40 days to keep as a reminder what Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ endured for our salvation. But another part of being a Christian, is giving back. And what better time to do this than during the Lenten season when Christ was the ultimate example in giving.

There are so many charities out there that do such great work and many go unknown; some are local and some have a more national profile but all do such great work and are needed. So this Lent, I've chosen to not just give but also help highlight some charities. I'm hoping that perhaps you are moved by their work and decide to donate if not for Lent, perhaps just because what they do is a beautiful thing and it moves you.

If you don't know this about me, I love animals. I especially love dogs. I did own two German Shepherds but lost our boy a couple of years ago. We adopted a cute pit mix to keep my remaing GSD company. I do my best to help get the word out on local organizations like the Oviedo Police K9 Unit or Orange County Animal Shelter. Well today I'd like you to meet Warrior Dog Foundation.

I heard of Warrior Dog Foundation on a radio show and fell in love with how this organization not only came to be but what they do. "The Warrior Dog Foundation was founded by Mike Ritland as a place for retirement and rehabilitation of retired Warrior K9s slated to be euthanized. We provide a rare sanctuary of last resort and as a result, our retired K9s often stay with us for many years, and some live out their lives with us."

When you stop and think how crucial our military K9 heroes are not just in helping our troops with the work they do but also giving companionship to the troops; a sense of normalcy if you will having a dog by their side. But what happens to these military dogs once its time for them to retire or what if they're injured? This is where the Warrior Dog Foundation picks up the job "the Warrior Dog Foundation helps transition them from an operational environment into our state-of-the-art kennel facility in Texas.  We then ensure the care of each individual K9 with dignity and grace, including both mental and physical rehabilitation for the rest of their lives."

Beautiful hearts that take care of these K9 heroes. For more informaton on the WarriorDogFoundation.org click here, for more videos on click here and to donate click here.

Thank you and God Bless you. ~grace
